 Dear Parents and Students,

It’s August and time to start thinking about the exciting year ahead. In the fall the middle school and high school will be participating in an off island camping trip at Nickerson State Park in Brewster to spend time getting to know each other and building our upper school community. We will camp overnight and be involved in a variety of activities helping us to become familiar with each other. The trip will take place from Wednesday, September 23 through Friday, September 25. We will be in need of extra sleeping bags for this trip. If you have any extra bags that you would like to let the school use during this trip, please let your advisor know during your Personal Education Plan meeting. More information about the camping trip will be distributed at your PEP.

It is important that we take this opportunity to make you aware of the materials that you will need for the upcoming school year. The middle school will be providing several materials to help students maintain organization throughout the year. These are:

  • An assignment book
  • A pencil case
  • A binder that will travel to and from home where students can keep track of assignments and class handouts.

Items that students are expected to supply throughout the year include:

  • Pencils and pens
  • A highlighter
  • Graph paper and lined paper
  • Erasers
  • Composition notebook/journal for English
  • If you have a home computer or laptop that you will be using for assignments, a USB flash drive or thumb drive will be useful.
  • A calculator with an exponent key ( x²) is necessary for math homework. Calculators for school work will be provided.
  • Returning eighth graders please remember to bring your math toolkit.

You will be contacted by the front office to set up your PEP meeting. Please come prepared to your PEP with ideas about your own needs and goals for the year.  This is an important part of taking responsibility for your learning.  Please use the enclosed self reflection sheet to help you formulate your thoughts. We will continue to minimize the negative impact on instructional time of personal electronic devices. I-pods, cell phones, and other personal electronic devices are only to be used during lunch and recess. Home contacts should be made through the front office and a message will be delivered.

We look forward to seeing you in September!
